Biscuits Go Deep Twice in Win
Shawn O'Malley and Delmon Young homer in a 6-2 win over Birmingham
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Biscuits (70-67, 33-34) launched two home runs in a 6-2 win over the Birmingham Barons (75-62, 31-36) Friday night at Regions Field.
Neither side had a base-runner through the first three innings until Shawn O’Malley led the fourth off with a home run off of Jarrett Casey. Todd Glaesmann later followed with a two-run double to give the Biscuits a 3-0 lead.
Delmon Young cranked his first home run in the Southern League since 2005 – a two run shot in the fifth – to give the Biscuits a 5-1 lead. The Biscuits scored their final run of the night when Mikie Mahtook doubled in the eighth and scored on two wild pitches.
The Barons made it a 3-1 game with a Dan Black RBI-double in the fourth then a 5-2 game with a sacrifice fly in the seventh.
Victor Mateo (7-9) picked up his seventh win of the season by going seven innings and only allowing two runs. The right-hander allowed four hits while striking out three and not walking a batter.
The middle-game is Saturday at 6:30. RHP Joe Van Meter will be on the hill for the Biscuits while RHP Chris Beck will take the ball for the Barons.
